The government has no rights to control the media because that defeats the purpose of freedom of press.

Prime Minster Justin Trudeau

The government has no rights to control the media because that defeats the purpose of freedom of press.

If you’re not a journalist or don’t keep an eye on the government you might not have known the the Trudeau government created a “independent advisory board”, the judge and jury to rule what is or what is not a “qualified Canadian journalism organization” (QCJO). Holding ultimate power, the Independent Advisory Board on the Eligibility for Journalism Tax Measures on the status of Rebel News,

“A review found that less than one per cent of the content meets the criteria for original news content as required by the act.” said Ezra Levant

Canada is supposed to be a democratic political system but apparently the minority government has granted itself the unlimited power to define what it will qualify as journalism.

Interestingly the majority of Canada’s media is slient on the issue giving no push back or asking questions.

All newspapes, television and radio stations, the Canadian Association of Journalists, Journalists for Free Expression, every journalism school and journalism professor is turning a blind eye to this disgusting assault on the free press.

Ottawa press gallery which should be one of the first to to stand up and protect press independence.

However there are political systems that do in fact rule with an iron fist controlling the press. These systems would be autocracies and dictatorships.

Many journalists know areopagitica is among history’s most influential and impassioned philosophical defences of the principle of a right to freedom of speech and expression.

Whether they agree with they style of journalism Rebel News does or not has nothing to do with supporting free press or not when the principle of a free press is being stomped on by the national government.

We’re asking readers, like you, to make a contribution in support of BC Rise's fact-based, independent reporting.

Unlike the mainstream media, BC Rise isn’t getting a government bailout and fully independent. Instead, we depend on friendly support of Canadians like you.

A media outlet cannot remain neutral and fair if they have special beneficiaries or government handouts.

This is why independent media in Canada is more important than ever. If you’re able, please make a donation to BC Rise today. Thank you so much.
