Last week US President Joe Biden visited Canada and sounded confused about the job title of Canada’s Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
Biden was introduced to and greeted by dignitaries, senators, and ither political party leaders. While shaking hands with Biden each leader introduced themselves to him but Biden questioned Poilievre’s job title, “Loyal opposition?” Biden asked.
After Poilievre explained the title to Biden, he replied the United States “unfortunately” believes that different political views is an act of loyalty to the system.
This is how the exchange went:
Poilievre: “Pierre Poilievre, leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition”
Biden: “Loyal opposition?”
Pierre Poilievre: “We believe that opposition is an act of loyalty in our system.”
Biden: “We do too unfortunately”
Some people are defending Joe Biden labeling the comments as just a ‘joke’ while others have criticized Biden saying it reflects badly on him.
