The radical eco terrorist group that calls itself ‘The Tyre Extinguishers’ have threatened regular everyday Vancouver residents with vandalism to their vehicles.
According to a post of a leaflet on social media by Lynda Steele, over the weekend radical climate activists deflated tires on 34 SUV’s in Victoria and Oak Bay
The leaflet was placed on the windshield of one of those SUVs. It reads in part, “We have deflated one or more of your tires. You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you. It’s your car. We did this because driving around urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge consequences for others.”
The note goes on to detail these “consequences”, claiming that SUVs pollute more than smaller cars, are more dangerous if they hit a pedestrian, and are more likely to have unsafe drivers.
It’s hypocritical to tell people that are safe drivers and have never been in an accident before that they are a danger to pedestrians, then go and deflate the tires of the safe drivers SUV that in tuen absolutely does cause a safety hazard.
Deflating people’s vehicle tires isn’t just vandalism but can cause danger to the driver and the public.
If the vehicle owner doesn’t realize the tire is flat and they start to drive the speed limit it can cause the driver to lose control of their vehicle and end up in a ditch, crashing 8n another vehicle or even running over a pedestrian.
This could also costs hundreds of dollars to the owner of the vehicle if the tire gets shredded up as they drive.
Ruining vehicle tires actually contributes to pollution because the vehicle owner will end up buying more tires which uses oil and other materials to make.
They also make the out of touch claim that SUV’s are “unnecessary” and purely “vanity”, clearly missing the fact many people have SUV’s because they have a family or need it for work. Many people also enjoy the outdoors and require a SUV or a 4×4 for outdoors activities and because buying a vehicle plus insurance is expensive they only own the one vehicle
The Victoria vandalism was the first for its west-coast chapter, according to the Tyre Extinguishers Twitter account, and it was planned to cause property damage in other major cities. Vancouver would be included in this.
The group states it is a “worldwide direct action environmental group with the goal of eliminating SUVs from urban areas.”
The account also has images flaunting their property crime deflating tires.
B.C. has already seen multiple activism stunts that included violence and some that disrupted roads and other vandalism
In February of this year there was a violent act of terror at a Coastal Gaslink site which saw dozens of radical eco terrorists break in to the property. Once inside they began to terrorize the Coast Gaslink workers and security swinging axes and shooting flare guns at them. When police arrived, they found the road blocked with a bonfire and a busy. Traps were set up nearby and the eco terrorists began to throwing flaming tree branches at the officers causing injuries. Heavy equipment was hijacked and used to cost millions of dollars worth of damage.
In May a group called Stop Old Growth Logging led by led by florigen environmental activist Zain Haq began to erect blockades on major traffic routes during peak traffic hour in an attempt to intimidate the BC NDP government to suspend old-growth logging. He was detained by CBSA because due to violations of his student from numerous charges of criminal mischief and at least one conviction for contempt of court – which usually leads to deportation.
