Yesterday June 22, 2022 the federal NDP party released a statement on their website about the allegations and Jagmeet appeared in front of reporters at a media conference.
“I want the truth to come forward and I’m open to any proper forum for that to happen,” NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh tells reporters as he confirms he would support an investigation into alleged interference in the N.S. shooting probe.
In the statement released on their website it says the allegations of RCMP Commissioner Lucki interfering in an ongoing police investigation is very disturbing and “raising serious questions about political pressure within the RCMP when they’re supposed to be independent” the statements reads.
“All Canadians have to be able to have trust in their institutions. The idea that this [Liberal] government –that any government—would use this horrific act of mass murder to gain support for their gun policy is completely unacceptable.”
“New Democrats will be calling for a full investigation into these disturbing allegations so that Canadians have the answers they deserve about any interference from the RCMP or their government.”
The Halifax Examiner reported RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki pressured RCMP investigators to release more details regarding an open and active investigation.
“The Commissioner said she had promised the Minister of Public Safety and the Prime Minister’s Office that the RCMP (we) would release this information. I tried to explain there was no intent to disrespect anyone however we could not release this information at this time. The Commissioner then said that we didn’t understand, that this was tied to pending gun control legislation that would make officers and the public safer. She was very upset and at one point Deputy Commissioner (Brian) Brennan tried to get things calmed down but that had little effect. Some in the room were reduced to tears and emotional over this belittling reprimand.”
The federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made a deal earlier this year to float a majority coalition between the NDP and Liberal party writing a blank cheque or support to everything the Trudeau Liberal government wants to do. Critics are saying they don’t believe Jagmeet Singh will “risk his pension” to actually pressure the Liberals for answers for Canadians.
