Employees at a Burlington, Ontario bakery are being attacked online and in person after one of the owners donated to the Freedom Convoy campaign.
Erinn Weatherbie and Kelly Childs, co-owners of Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, stand by their $1,000 donation but are appalled by the hostility they are now experiencing from outraged members of the public.
In a interview with True North, the owners of the bakery explained at 6:15 pm on Tuesday evening a middle-aged man confronted their all-female staff over the donation.
“A man entered the bake shop and waited in line as if he was going to place an order. When one of our staff members had a chance to help him out and welcome him to the shop, he basically aggressively responded to them,” said Weatherbie.
“He said ‘Did you donate $1,000 to the trucker convoy? Do you support traitors? It’s all over social media. Were your staff involved in donating?’ He was very aggressive, and he also kept one of his hands in his pocket the whole time.”
According to Weatherbie, one young female employee repeatedly urged the man to leave and threatened to contact the police. Earlier in the day, the firm received an email from the same individual inquiring about their donation.
True North reports they were shown the email in which the individual accuses the bakery for supporting “white supremacists.” True North notes they will not be releasing the mans name unless charges are filed in regards to threats.
“She had to ask him – I would say at least five times – to leave the store, and he kept on basically harassing her,” said Weatherbie. “The staff on shift at the time were all young women, girls basically under the age of 25, so for a man to come in and aggressively verbally assault our staff members is shocking.”
The deranged man eventually left on his own after having a spaz attack and verbally assaulting the all female staff. The employees are all under 25 years old.
The bakery is now concerned for the safety of its staff and considering hiring private security according to True North “The bakery also filed a report with the police who came to review security footage.”
True North reached out to the lunatic to confirm it was him verbally assaulting staff at the bakery. The man admitted to the violent verbal assault but tried to justify his unhinged spaz attack “It’s disturbing that there are people involved in this convoy this close to my house. It’s scary,” he said, about the Freedom Convoy in a peaceful protest that has had no violence or arrests in the 4 weeks of being at parliament hill with hundreds of thousands or people that have already been to the protest. He finds it scary that so many people believe in freedom. Claiming he did nothing wrong “I didn’t confront them. I didn’t do anything to them.” after trying to justify his outrageous unhinged reaction.
He told True North the police did reach out to him but as it stands right now there is currently no charges being pressed for now.
Kelly’s Bake Shoppe has seen a regular stream of online harassment and another incident of in-person harassment since their information was illegally leaked in the GiveSendGo breach.
“You are a f*cking scumbag TRAITOR and should be dragged into the streets like the dog you are,” the anonymous sender wrote from a email address f*ckyou@b*tch.com
The Bakery has also reported they have had people standing outside the doors harassing the customers waiting in line and telling everyone not to shop at the local bakery. Employees went outside to tell them maniac they are calling the police, in which the clown then ran away.
The business has face a barrage of hate mail and social media posts falsely claiming they support “anti-vaxx and white supremacist” and they are “working against Canada.”
Like millions of Canadians Weatherbie supports the truckers’ message of freedom and unity “ending the vaccine mandates and getting back to normal.” They are frustrated it has been 2 years and we are still stuck in a never ending pandemic and like a majority of Canadians they want to return to normal.
