A Majority of Canadians want Justin Trudeau to step down: New Poll

A majority of Canadians want Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign, according to a new IpsosĀ poll. The poll found 54% of Canadians believe Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should step down and Canada should have a new Prime Minister.

In 2023 Justin Trudeau will see a decade of being the Liberal Leader and eight of those years serving as the Prime Minister of Canada.

The belief is held straight across Canada that Justin Trudeau should see 2023 as his final year as Prime Minister. The sentiment is held highest in Alberta (65%), followed by residents of Atlantic Canada (57%), Saskatchewan and Manitoba (56%), Ontario (56%), British Columbia (54%), and Quebec (43%).

While the belief is felt nation wide only 29% think Trudeau would actually step down from Prime Minister of Canada.

The Ipsos poll was done between December 14 and 16, 2022, on behalf of Global News which used a sample of 1,004 Canadians aged 18+.

Justin Trudeau has already said he will be staying on as the leader of the Liberal Party to take on Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

The Trudeau Liberal government ethics violations has been thrusted back in to the spotlight after it was revealed a government contract for media training was awarded to a close friend of the International Trade minister Mary Ng.

Following the government’s sixth ethical violation, Trudeau responded by telling CTV News that “it sucks” when his own members of government break ethics laws.

According to Trudeau, the fact that the public is aware of the problems proves the system is working. According to CTV News there is really no penalties or consequences to incentivize politicians to not break ethics laws.

Trudeau wouldn’t commit to adding accountability with tougher penalties and consequences for politicians guilty of breaking ethics laws. Trudeau said his Liberals will “learn from their mistakes” and “make sure people are being careful” going forward.
