Man on bail breaching conditions seen with gun in bar re-arrested by police

According to Vancouver police, a 45-year-old man has been charged after being allegedly of entering a downtown bar with a gun this week while armed.

Around 6 p.m. on Monday, police were dispatch to the Lennox Pub at the corner of Granville and Robson streets after someone reported seeing the firearm.

While he was exiting the pub police say he “failed to follow police commands and jeopardized public safety,” Officers deployed a bean bag shotgun, fired multiple rounds to make the arrest.

As the man exited the bar, officers fired multiple bean-bag shotgun rounds to arrest him “when he failed to follow police commands and jeopardized public safety,” police said in a media release Wednesday.

Police retrieved a gun at the scene.

Marcus Phillip Van Schilt has now been charged with possession of a weapon and breaching bail, and is due back in court on Jan. 17.

Previous court documents Schilt has has a history with the justice system in recent years, including convictions last year for possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes and assault with a weapon. It’s already illegal for Marcus Phillip Van Schilt to possess a gun as he was slapped with a firearms prohibition order in 2022.
