Coquitlam: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) continues to investigate the stabbing in Coquitlam and confirms there is no risk or connection to the Glen Elementary School.
On May 8, 2022, around 12:40 a.m., the Coquitlam RCMP responded to the 3000 block of Glen Drive, Coquitlam for reports of a stabbing. On arrival, first responders found a 29-year-old male suffering from stab wounds. Despite all efforts to revive him, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working in partnership with the Coquitlam RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service. Although still early in the investigation, homicide investigators confirm that this was an isolated incident and has no connection to gangs. One person was taken into custody but no charges have yet been laid. Investigators are still in the evidence gathering phase but are not searching for additional suspects. With all persons known and accounted for, the names of the victim and suspect are not being released at this time.
We can confirm this was an argument that turned into an altercation and stabbing, said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, this was an isolated incident and the Glen Elementary community is not at risk.
