During the Public Order Emergency Commission fact gathering hearings it was revealed Chrystia Freeland was excited with the idea to label last years Freedom Convoy protesters as terrorists in order to freeze their bank accounts.
BMO CEO Darryl White rejects Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s claim he asked for the Freedom Convoy protesters to be labeled as terrorists.
While meetings were being conducted between Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and financial instructions, Freeland made a note in her handwritten meeting minutes that the Bank of Montreal CEO Darryl White wanted the Freedom Convoy protesters designated as “terrorist’s” so the banks could start freezing bank accounts and possibly seize assets.
According to Andrew Lawton, Journalist for True North, the Bank of Montreal neglected to respond when he reached out to them for a response to Freeland’s claim.
While Andrew Lawton is roaming around at the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos Switzerland trying to interview world leaders and top level CEO’s he luckily ran in to Bank of Canada CEO Darryl White.
Lawton took advantage of this rare opportunity to question White about Freeland’s claim in her hand written notes if he did in fact call for the Freedom Convoy protesters to be labeled as terrorists under Canada’s terrorist financing measure.
“Minister Freeland said during the public order emergency commission that you had wanted to call the Convoy protesters terrorists to deal with their financing. Why was that?” Lawton asked.
After Lawton asked the question, BMO CEO Darryl White with a big grin on his face claimed he “would never call the Convoy protesters terrorists” insisting he was only informing Freeland of the process that needs to be taken before the banks could freeze bank accounts and seize assists.
“So I would never call the Convoy protesters terrorists what was uh what was said was that in order for the banks to be hopeful there are certain protocols and those protocols include a sanction where we can in fact help in that case otherwise it’s not our business to to interfere in the Affairs of anyone’s finances truckers are otherwise one of the other banking” responded Darryl White.
Lawton followed up by asking Darryl White if he shared the views of other bank executives on the call that the financial system shouldn’t be weaponized.
Darryl responded by saying “oh it’s always a view I shared I don’t think banks should be weaponized any more than any other industry I think we uh we have jobs to do and we do it for Canadians and I think generally in fact more than generally we do it pretty well”
While Darryl White claims he believes banks shouldn’t be weaponized he was then asked directly by Lawton “did you support the financial measures?”. Darryl smirked and walked away without answering the question.
