RCMP investigate one man dead after reported shots fired

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is investigating a shooting incident that took place in Vernon on Friday evening.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residential building in the 5300-block of 25th Avenue in Vernon on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, shortly before 6 p.m. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered a 38-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

The man died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot. The investigation has been handed over to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit. The area has been sealed and will stay blocked off while investigators do their investigation and examine the situation.

Preliminary findings of the investigation suggest this to be a targeted incident,” states Inspector Blake MacLeod, Operations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. 

According to Inspector Blake MacLeod the victim was known to police and the RCMP do not believe the safety of the public is at risk. The police are asking for any witnesses, anyone with dash cam footage or surveillance footage in the area to contact police directly and immediately at (250) 545-7171.
