Five stabbings in less than an hour during Halloween party night in Vancouver

On Saturday night Vancouver a large amount of people visit the city looking to have a good time, and by early Sunday morning 5 people were stabbed in less than one hour, police say they’re still investigating.

The city’s bars restaurants, and entertainment zones were “flooded” with Halloween pater-goers, according to Vancouver Police.

According to police, Halloween partiers flooded the city’s bars, restaurants, and entertainment zones.

“The weekend before Halloween is always one of the busiest for our officers, and these major incidents stretched our resources thin during a critical time,” says Sergeant Addison,

“At this stage in the investigations, we believe these stabbings occurred in two separate and unrelated incidents,” says Sergeant Steve Addison, adding all five victims required hospitalization. “We believe these crimes were targeted, and resulted from prior confrontations between the victims and the suspects.”

Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, VPD officers were called to a bar on Oak Street and West Broadway where three males had been critically hurt in an altercation between two parties. The victims, all White Rock guys in their 20s, had travelled to Vancouver to celebrate a birthday. Two others sustained more serious injuries and are still being treated at the hospital, while one received non-life-threatening treatment there. The suspects fled the scene.

Less than an hour later, VPD officers on patrol in the city’s central business district broke up a big altercation between two groups of people on Granville Street. Two 20-year-old guys were hospitalized after being stabbed in the face, hands, and torso. The suspects are still unknown.

Police noted other incidents

Granville Entertainment District

According to police, a man from Surrey in his 20s was visiting the Granville Entertainment District Saturday morning near Howe and Nelson Streets when he had attempted to intervene in a dispute between two strangers. He was slashed in the face and was taken to hospital for stiches.

Denman and Davie Street

Police said early Saturday morning a witness called them after “hearing someone claim to have a gun during an altercation between two groups at a restaurant near Denman and Davie Street”. According to the Police the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. , Officers responding to the call located the cab, arresting the suspects, and seizing two loaded handguns a man in his 20s.

Chinatown

Police say a man in his 20s was threatened by a stranger while walking through Chinatown on Saturday evening, the victim called police, when they located the suspect he attempted to flee but was arrested.

“Unfortunately for the suspect, he was in the wrong bike gear, and his chain fell off, allowing officers to apprehend him before he could ride away,” said Police. the suspect was taken to jail and charges have been recommended.
