E-bike stop uncovers homemade gun, drugs

A suspected firearm was one of the items seized by police during an investigation on the North Shore Thursday afternoon.

On July 7, 2022 around 1:30 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling the 300-block of Tranquille Road when he stopped a man who was riding an e-bike on the sidewalk, without a helmet. While the officer was investigating, he observed a machete attached to a backpack. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of ammunition, break-in instruments, identification documents that were not his; a small amount of suspected cocaine, and what appeared to be a homemade gun.

The man was released with a court date, pending the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge recommendation process. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-23233.
