Victim in Walnut Grove shooting known to police. Identified as 18-year-old Langley man

A deadly shooting in Walnut Grove left one dead and one injured.

Police say on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022,  shots were fired just before 2 p.m. around 88 Avenue and 202 Street. They received multiple calls to report the incident.

The lower mainland’s homicide team identified 18-year-old Julian Moya Cardenas as the victim of a targeted shooting in Walnut Grove. On Saturday, Langley RCMP said a bystander was also hit by stray bullets and was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those impacted by this incident,” said Sgt. David Lee of IHIT. “The shooting was reckless and a complete disregard for the safety of the community.”

Homicide investigators are canvassing for witnesses, cellphone video and dashcam footage.
